      ab: The article presents a study which evaluated the Weston-Crouch system of computing illumination intensities for a specified maximum visual performance percentage. H.C. Weston studied the effect of the size of work and brightness contrast to formulate a method to derive the illumination intensity needed for a given percentage of maximum visual efficiency. C. L. Crouch expanded Weston's technique by using more definite formulation and devising a monogram for the computation. In the study, the illumination intensities needed for fastest reading of newsprint and book print were compared with the corresponding intensities derived from the computations.
