      ab: The article provides information on a study that determined how visual performance at low photopic brightness levels is related to the brightness of an immediately preceding visual task. The experiments reported are part of a research program on human visual performance at low photopic brightnesses which was undertaken to determine some of the human factors important in aircraft instrument lighting. Evidence is presented that performance on a far visual task at low photopic brightnesses is unaffected by the brightness of an immediately preceding visual task at near distance, and similarly that performance on the near task is not related to the brightness of the immediately preceding far task.
