| Sumario: | The author comments on the paper "Note on I.Q. Changes in Foster Home Children," by Robert L. Thorndike. The note called attention to a statistical error in an article by Emmett L. Schott on changes in intelligence quotients of foster home children. Schott stated that a difference is only 0.28 times its standard error and is therefore statistically insignificant. Thorndike re-calculated this value from the figures given by Schott and obtained a critical ratio of 4.6. The author asserts that it is greatly to be regretted that errors in computation appear in research publications, with consequent danger of gross distortion of the obtained results. |
