      ab: The article discusses efforts to create artificial eyesight. Researchers John Pezaris and Clay Reid inserted electrodes into the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN) area in the brains of two monkeys. The electrodes allowed the LGN to be stimulated as if it were receiving input from the retina. The researchers then simulated flashes of light with electrical impulses to the electrodes. The monkeys reacted similarly to the simulated light flashes as they had to actual light flashes.
