ab: After receiving multiple rejections from literary agents and eventually receiving some acceptances, it is concluded that there are two keys to increasing the probability of getting offered a contract. The keys are, a) begin the one page cover letter with a hook and b) produce a brief, clear, crisp, professionally developed proposal highlighting a promotion plan. Examples of hooks are presented for both fiction and nonfiction. A format is explained in detail for developing a professional proposal with an example of a promotional plan. Although there are no guarantees, the two keys that are advocated will increase the chances the materials will at least get read by very busy literary agents.
