Summary:	This article discusses the impact of Hurricane Katrina on the Current Population Survey (CPS) field staff, data collection operations, and estimation. The CPS is a monthly survey of about 60,000 occupied housing units that is used to produce timely statistics on the U.S. labor force, including the national unemployment rate, a major economic indicator. CPS data were also used in conjunction with data from other surveys of the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics to develop employment and unemployment statistics for 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia.
