ab: The article reports that the IEEE Computer Society Technical Activities Board created two collaborative bodies, the Technical Committee and Task Force on Haptics and the Task Force on Game Technology, intended to encourage participation in the society's activities. The Haptics Task Force, jointly sponsored by the IEEE Computer Society and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, provides leadership and organization for scientific work on haptics under the leadership of founding chair Hong Z. Tan of Purdue University. Founding chair James R. Parker, of the University of Calgary in Canada, will lead the game technology Task Force as they study the technologies and design processes of serious games to see how the technology might be used in non-entertainment applications.
