The author begins with a discussion of the Y2K Problem and the related issues that individuals thought would arise when computer's internal clocks struck double zero. The author examines early methods that computers employed to keep time and discusses the difficulties that programmers faced when dealing with these primitive programs. He discusses the advances the were made throughout the decades leading up to the 1990s when, in 1996, IBM announced that the Y2K Problem would affect all forms of information technology.
