| Sumario: | One of the most important "felt necessities" that the relatives of patients with Alzheimer or another similar dementia have, is to solve the dilemma between the attention that the patient demands, and the use of their time in different activities, frequently destined to the familiar support. A fact that aggravates the situation is the frequent family difficulty to separate the patient of its nucleus (institutionalization, nursing home incoming). Facing this panorama, in different world places, the Day Care Centers as a resource, have arised as an aswer for partial attendance, that allows to family a space of lightening and a time for activities different from the patient's care. Even though Day Care Centers for demented patients exist in many places, each one of them must face particular problems derived from the cultural surroundings, the socioeconomic profile of the attended ones, the relatives's expectations, and the economic and human resources of each project. In this article, is exposed the way in which the first model of Day Care Center for patients with dementia in Mexico has been developed. Una de las necesidades "sentidas" más importantes que tienen los familiares de enfermos con Alzheimer u otra demencia similar, es resolver el dilema entre la atención que demanda el paciente, y el uso de su tiempo en actividades diferentes, con frecuencia destinadas al sostenimiento familiar. Un factor que agrava la situación es la frecuente dificultad de la familia para separar al enfermo de su núcleo (institucionalización, asilamiento). Ante este panorama, en diferentes lugares del mundo han surgido los Centros de Día como un recurso de asistencia parcial, que permite a la familia un espacio de alivio y un tiempo para actividades diferentes al cuidado del enfermo. Aún cuando existen estos Centros de Día para pacientes con demencia en muchos lugares, cada uno de ellos debe enfrentar problemas particulares derivados del entorno cultural, el perfil socioeconómico de los asistidos, las expectativas de los familiares y los recursos económicos y humanos de cada proyecto. En este artículo, se expone la manera en que se ha desarrollado el primer modelo de Centro de Día para pacientes con demencia en México. |
