Sumario:The article profiles astrophysicist Lisa Kaltenegger of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Massachusetts, who analyzes photons from the light of distant stars in an effort to determine whether there is evidence of extraterrestrial life. A discussion of Kaltenegger's involvement in an international project that would build a flotilla of satellites which would be capable of capturing light from distant, Earth-like planets is presented. The difficulties associated with the study of light from stars and planets is discussed.
