| Sumario: | The article focuses on technology-associated trends that will influence library administration, material collection and distribution and usage in the U.S. Libraries will seek the lifting of barriers that hinder patrons to use content and the aggregated databases containing that content. Academic libraries, in particular, will offer their materials electronically using the Internet. New digitization technologies will hasten these changes by allowing more special collections to be used by patrons. Libraries will also offer more virtual reference services such as basic e-mail reference, real-time chat reference and collaborative browsing.
