| Sumario: | The article discusses the authentication technology called the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.1X which was supposed to be an important tool for local area networks (LAN). It is stated that the authentication technology provides a security framework by letting personal computers (PC), Internet phones, and other devices connect to a LAN only if they can authenticate themselves prior to network access. The way in which the technology provides port-based authentication in wired Ethernet and Wi-Fi mobile networks is described.
