| Sumario: | The article focuses on social stratification and poverty in some regions in Russia. It states that the identification of Russia as having the highest level of social stratification among all the former Soviet socialist countries, along with the highest degree of poverty, affected the sense of social wellbeing and the level of socio-cultural differentiation or integration of the people in the region. It discloses that poverty in the country is accounted to low income and to large-family burdens among working people. It relates that manifestations of poverty in the region include poor health, low educational attainment and the inability to compete in the labor market. Tables related to the issues of social stratification and poverty in Russia are presented. |
