Sumario:Chapter 1 of the book "Grazia Deledda: Ethnic Novelist" is presented. It explores Grazia Deledda as basically a Sardinian writer who uses the Italian language as a literary tool and who is shown in "La via del male" (1896) to be original in her transcriptions of folklore that inspire characters in the novel. It cites the autobiographical "Cosima" (1937) as a novel where memory links the reality of the past with the fantasy of the present. Deledda's ethnographic writings are also discussed.
