Sumario:Chapter 5 of Part I of the book "They Built Utopia: The Jesuit Missions in Paraguay 1610-1768" is presented. It tells about the ecclesiastic and fiscal problems faced by the Jesuits in their missions to Paraguay. Accordingly, the Jesuits were prevented from holding a parish by the Order's Institutions. Moreover, Bishop Bernardino Cárdenas petitioned the High Court to ban the Jesuits from their missions.
