Sumario:A chapter from the book "Lifting the Obsidian Mask: The Artistic Vision of Carlos Fuentes" is presented. It describes the works of Mexican novelist and essayist Carlos Fuentes. It cites reasons why no study of the works of Fuentes can reach a definitive conclusion. First, it argues that Fuentes himself has repeatedly defined his aesthetic as an open one. Second, it asserts that no interpretation of the magnitude of Fuentes's creation can be obtained since Fuentes continues to create stream of essays and interviews, of short stories and novels.
