Sumario:Chapter 3 of the book "Textual History & the Divine Comedy" is presented. It examines the language of Pier della Vigna, a character in Dante Alighieri's epic poem "Commedia," and compares his words to an intertextual echo in an aim to demonstrate how Dante allows the reader to transform the sinner's history into narrative, thereby showing it to be an empty reality, a fiction. Here, Dante establishes that, for the pilgrim, history is the key through which progress is made so that both may culminate their respective journeys in the Word Incarnate.
