| Sumario: | In my teaching at Washington University I use traditional book arts techniques, typesetting, printing, binding, to reinforce thinking, writing, and designing, taking place in sequential format. Authorship and design are taught as behaviours that take the book as their form, but are transferable to other formats as well. 20 years after the predicted demise of the book we see an explosion in the book arts in America. This is not because the book represents a quaint or precious object but because it represents a tool for focusing one's vision on a topic and making it understandable, as well as personal.
