| Sumario: | This article is the transcript of Wendy Lawson's plenary address given at the colloquium. The article asserts that for autistics concepts that neurotypicals take for granted take time and effort to 'discover and capture' and explores how poetry is a helpful tool in this processs. In the article Lawson's reflections upon her childhood are interspersed with poetic translations of her experience taken from her books AS Poetry: Illustrated Poems from an Aspie Life (2006) and Build Your Own Life: A Self-Help Guide for Individuals with Asperger's Syndrome (2003), both available from Jessica Kingsley Publishers.
