| Sumario: | A biography of Pearl Comfort Sydenstricker, the first woman to receive a Nobel Prize in Literature, is presented. She was born on June 26, 1892 in West Virginia, U.S.A. Her parents were missionaries and under the direction of the Presbyterian Board of Foreign Missions. When she was five months old, she was taken to Chinkiang, Kiangsu Province in China where she lived her 17 years. In 1910, she entered Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Virginia and returned to China to write books. |
