Sumario:	This article examines the life and political legacy of Jessie Helms, former U.S. Senator of North Carolina, in regards to his influence on the formation and realignment of Republican conservatism within the Southern States in the 1950s. Details are given charting his political career in the decade and highlighting his effective use of mass media and aggressive rhetoric to figurehead the realignment of his political constituency. Additional discussion is given examining the racial and religious overtones frequently seen within Helms' discourse.
