Sumario:The article focuses on the development of safety-critical systems that comply with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration's Advisory Circular AC-20-152 standard and the Radio Technical Commission for Aeronautics' (RTCA) DO-254 certification guideline for software. The discussion includes: programmable logic devices, field-programmable gate arrays, and application-specific integrated circuits; RTCA DO-178B standard for avionic systems; a Web site where information about industry practices and compliance with DO-254 guidelines is available; a survey of industry and certification authorities concerning the use of programmable logic tools for verifying hardware compliance; and the criteria for tool selection in DO-254 projects.
