Sumario:The article discusses complex-event processing technology (CEP). Whereas most event-analysis software processes only historical data, CEP systems gather and analyze data from a variety of sources on a real-time basis and submit the results to end users. A CEP system seeks to identify from raw data complex events such as trends or patterns. The author’s discussion includes early research into CEP, the two basic types of CEP tool sets, how CEP works, typical CEP implementations, and obstacles to the more widespread use of CEP.
