Sumario:The article discusses high-dynamic-range (HDR) technology for video displays. Dolby Laboratories seeks to adapt HDR so that it can be used in television sets. Benefits of HDR would include sharper contrast than existing displays and a greater range of intensity between light and dark areas. HDR is also energy-efficient, and it does not use mercury-containing fluorescent lighting tubes commonly found in LCD displays. According to Paul Gagnon of research firm DispaySearch, HDR would be used primarily in high-end devices due to its cost.
