| Sumario: | The article presents an overview of the development of the Clayton Jackson McGhie Memorial of Duluth, Minnesota, a monument erected to commemorate and mourn the lynching of three African Americans in 1920. An account of the lynching events themselves is provided, along with discussion of the resistance by some community members in the 21st-century who opposed the monument's creation. Questions are raised concerning the social psychology of monuments and memory. |
