| Sumario: | The article examines the Armaic court conflict story of Daniel 3 and its connection with the ancient Near East. In the story, Daniel's companions, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, were sentenced to die in a furnace of blazing fire by Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar after they were denounced by rival officials for not obeying the king's command to bow down to the colossal golden statue he has made. Although burning is used as a capital punishment, the use of a furnace dor this purpose was uncommon in the region. One explanation was that the use of a furnace was based on the biblical psalms for purification and refining. |
