ab: The shortened Leisure Experience Battery, developed by Caldwell, Smith, and Weissinger (1992), was applied to a sample of Turkish university students. The Leisure Experience Battery was developed and tested for US (American) adolescents and university students (Barnett, 2005). In the present study the Battery was used to examine a sample of 207 Turkish university students who were mostly male (71%), urban (86%), unemployed, aged between 18 and 22, and all were single. The findings indicated that the factor structure and subscale reliabilities are very similar to those reported for the US samples. With the exception of the Challenge subscale, bivariate correlations between the sub-scales — Awareness, Boredom, and Distress — were found to be in line with theoretical expectations, and not to vary significantly with gender.
