Summary:The authors examine the Number-Average Size (NAS) Rule proposed by Tomoya Mori and Tony E. Smith. Yannis M. Ioannides expresses satisfaction over the consistency of the findings of Mori and Smith across the different definitions of urban areas and hopes to see the complete theoretical framework of the NAS Rule. John M. Quigley points to the fact that Mori and Smith was unable to relate the NAS Rule to the economic or social behavior of households and firms that effect spatial regularities.
