Summary:In this article the author talks about author's rights in the British and U.S. publishing sectors. According to the author, changes in technology have challenged the attitude wherein publishers were willing to forego rights in books that were no longer selling in significant numbers. He notes the efficient operations of European publishing with regards to contracts that are for negotiable licence periods. He questions the possibility that the sector will differentiate its offers by buying rights for a set licence period instead of full term.
