Sumario:An essay is presented on the role of consumer modifications and total conversions (TCs) in the success of the computer game "Starcraft." The author notes how incomplete attempts by game players and enthusiasts to modify the game using images and elements of copyrighted properties such as the Star Wars motion picture series and the television program "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" reflected both open-source software principles as well as concepts of ownership.
