      ab: The article discusses trends and opportunities in the field of information systems (IS). The entry notes that student enrollment in IS courses has been declining due to a curriculum that places little emphasis on programming, and more on purchasing and assembling components. In relation to this trend, IS researchers have been left behind with the increase in purchases of mobile phone computer operating systems. It suggests that IS educators need to refocus students' interest towards a more societal application of technology.
