La publicación de Els catalans als camps nazis por Montserrat Roig en 1977 señala un momento decisivo para la inclusión de representaciones de la experiencia catalana en la historia 'oficial' de España. Tres años más tarde, la autora se enfrenta a un desafío similar en su novela L'hora violeta, y aprovecha la oportunidad de incorporar el sujeto y los hilos temáticos de su estudio historiográfico en la línea narrativa de su texto ficticio. El resultado de esta entremezcla es una aproximación intertextual a la historia catalana, una historia colectiva recontada a través de testimonio individual, y una exploración autorreflexiva de la lucha personal de la autora en cuanto a la convergencia de la historia y la ficción.
