| Summary: | The article profiles newspaper editor, author and bookseller David Austin Randall. After his conversion to the Baptist Church, Randall relocated to Ohio, where he edited the temperance newspaper "The Washingtonian." He and James Batcherlder became editors of the Christian newspaper "The Cross and Journal," later renamed "The Western Christian Journal." Randall entered into a partnership with bookseller Stephen H. Burr to establish the bookstore Burr & Randall in Columbus, Ohio. After Burr withdrew from the partnership, the store became Randall, Aston & Long and then Randall & Aston. The store sold religious literature, political literature and items supporting the Union during the U.S. Civil War. Randall also helped establish the First National Bank of Columbus.
