Advances in Science, Engineering and Technology for Sustainability

Osteoporosis, a major global morbidity affecting individuals over 50, reduces bone mass and commonly impacts the hip, spine, and wrist. Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is the diagnostic gold standard, but this study evaluated an electroacoustic device as an alternative. Forty-nine women were...

ab: Osteoporosis, a major global morbidity affecting individuals over 50, reduces bone mass and commonly impacts the hip, spine, and wrist. Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is the diagnostic gold standard, but this study evaluated an electroacoustic device as an alternative. Forty-nine women were assessed, comparing DEXA T-score values with measurements from the electroacoustic device. Statistical analysis using ANOVA and Chi-square test revealed no significant differences, and the ROC curve area was 0.551. Bland-Altman analysis indicated excellent agreement between both methods. These results suggest that the electroacoustic device provides reliable, non-invasive measurements consistent with DXA, supporting this potential as a clinical alternative for osteoporosis diagnosis.
