Are ambiguity and duality only accidental features of the poem? Traditionally, the doctrine of "being" is treated as a "content" which can be isolated from the "form" or "mode of expression." The article shows that such methodological premise is far from being self-evident and unquestionable. Parmenidas Elėjietis -- dviveidis istorinis personažas; vienintelis mums žinomas jo kūrinys, „didaktinė" poema „Apie Prigimtį," -- tai keistas heterogeniškų elementų ar netgi visiškų priešybių lydinys. Vaizdingos metaforos čia susipina su abstrakčiausiomis kategorijomis, trivialios tiesos -- su neišsprendžiamais mastymo paradoksais, per regimajį pasaulį vedantis „Nuomonės kelias" -- su dialektiniu „Tiesos keliu. " Ar dvilypumas ir dviprasmybė tėra tik atsitiktiniai Parmenido poemos bruožai, nulemti vien išorinių, istorinių kūrinio tapsmo aplinkybių?
