Sumario:This paper seeks to describe and interpret the duality theory relevant to the nonlinear programmes (1) and (2) and to supply, where possible, heuristic arguments supporting these assertions. It indicates why these relations fail to hold in the absence of the required concavity-convexity properties and, in the process, throws some light on the nature of duality in general. Finally, an economic interpretation of the dual (2) in terms of prices, marginal yields and rents is proposed.
