| Sumario: | This article describes speed and reading fluency and their role in improved reading. The author uses the analogy of the fable about the tortoise and the hare to illustrate the effect of speed without comprehension in reading fluency. In many cases, students who read fast do not comprehend what they are reading. Reading fluency is the ability to read fast with minimal effort and proper phrasing and expression. The article discusses ways to improve all the components of fluency in order to enhance comprehension. |
