| Sumario: | Man is a highly creative creature who prefers to learn by doing, exploring, testing, questioning, and modifying ideas. However, the traditional elementary school has not usually found it "economical" to foster learning by a process that is so natural to children. Education for today and the future must be relevant and meaningful. It must equip each student with a process by which he may solve the many complex problems that will eventually evolve. It is the purpose of this article to discuss one problem solving technique that has proven to be highly successful on all levels of learning. Brainstorming is a creative problem solving technique that has been used successfully in business, government, industry, and to a limited degree in the field of education. In the classroom, brainstorming can provide a student the means by which early contact with peers becomes a stimulating and challenging experience. Children might be asked to solve practical problems that arise during the day or to solve problems that might be proposed by the teacher or students during a social studies lesson. One noted researcher has found that even first grade children can profitably use the brainstorming technique.
