| Sumario: | The article analyzes the concept of class from the differing points of view of Marxism, the sociology of Max Weber, and mainstream stratification research. It notes that each has made positive contributions. It notes that class can be identified with material conditions of individuals as in stratification research, that class allows some people to control economic resources to the exclusion of others as in the Weberian perspective, and that class allows some people power over the lives and activities of others as in Marxism. The different approaches are examined in detail and compared and contrasted.
