This book describes assembly language programming, and assumes that the reader is familiar with the microputer. The book does not discuss the general features of a computer, addressing methods, or instruction sets. The book has been printed in bold face type and light type. This has been done to help the reader skip through parts of the book that cover subject matter you may be familiar with. The reader can be sure that all lightface type only expands on information presented in the previous coldface type. Therefore, the reader should read only boldface type until one reaches a subject about which more knowledge is desired, and then read the lightface type. A program is defined by the authors as a series of instructions that cause a computer to perform a particular task The focus of the book is squarely on the new 16 bit Zilog Z8000 CPU.
