Previous to 1977, Pre-Raphaelitism was characterized as drawing their subjects from the works of William Shakespeare, Dante Alighieri and John Keats. Fra Angelico was considered the best Pre-Raphaelite artist while Gabriel Dante Rossetti's "The Blessed Damozel" was considered an excellent example of a Pre-Raphaelite poem. Other traits of English Pre-Raphaelite poetry include its pictorial aspect, archaic diction, eye-rhymes and feminine rhymes. |
