The study of its contents has permitted us to identify discursive elements that combine aspects of positivist science with elements of a culture of subjectivity of romantic origins, identified through medical and literary influences. The management of the metaphor of the extraordinary journey to the country of Ultrafrenia (beyond reason) or the narration of ego experience regarding mental alienation, permit the author to demonstrate a representation of insanity "inside", which is given special importance to the subject's interiority, emotions, fears, and oddities related to the mental disorder. All of this gives the character a very particular relationship with other scientific novels, while reinforcing the informative nature of the work and its intention of scientific legitimization of mental medicine. La novela Misterios de la locura (1890) del psiquiatra catalán Juan Giné y Partagás constituye una peculiar y poco conocida aportación al género de la novela científica en España. El estudio de sus contenidos nos ha permitido identificar elementos discursivos que combinan aspectos de la ciencia positivista con elementos propios de una cultura de la subjetividad de origen romántico, identificada a través de influencias tanto médicas como literarias. El manejo de la metáfora del viaje extraordinario al país de Ultrafrenia (más allá de la razón) o la narración de una experiencia yoica en torno a la enajenación mental, permiten al autor mostrar una representación de la locura "por dentro", en la que se otorga una especial importancia a la interioridad del propio sujeto, a sus emociones, miedos y extrañezas ante su desorden mental.
