Summary:The article offers a framework for designing specialized collective intelligence applications and illustrates how it can be applied through the development of a specialized collective intelligence prototype. Applications have generally focused on improving specific job functions but the collective intelligence prototype focuses on gathering the intelligence of groups of people to enable better productivity and decisions. The processes involved in designing and implementing specialized collective intelligence applications including DDtrac, which is a Web-based application that allows for the collection and summary of special education data, is discussed.
