| Summary: | Two homeowners associations in South Orange County, California, are using computerized irrigation systems to conserve water and reduce utility bills. Manual irrigation controllers were replaced with devices that can communicate with a centralized communication system and existing computers were upgraded with scheduling software. The system incorporates programmable information to determine the right amount of water needed, thus eliminating water waste and reducing bills. It is estimated that the associations will recoup their costs in 2.5 to 5 years. |
