BLS's 1990 Annual Survey of Occupational Injuries and Illnesses shows that the grocery store industry was responsible for 250,000 cases of injury and illness (II), that the rate of II is higher than those in other retail trades and private industry, and that the rate has climbed since 1980. The Supplementary Data System shows that sprains and strains were the leading nature of II; the back and other parts of the torso were the most affected regions; “boxes, barrels, and containers” were the leading source of II; overexertion was the leading event or exposure to II; and retail salesworkers and stock handlers and baggers were the leading occupations of injured or ill workers. The BLS's Work Injury Report of 1984 and its new federal-state safety and health survey for 1992 are discussed. pubtype: Academic Journal doctype: Article src: R language: English refInfo: copyright: @attributes: flag: N holdings: @attributes: islocal: N |
