| Sumario: | Part of a special issue on the Bureau of Labor Statistics' projections in the areas of the U.S. labor force, economy, and employment to the year 2005. Projected job growth through 2005 will vary widely among the individual occupations, but in general, jobs that require a bachelor's degree or other postsecondary education or training are expected to have faster-than-average rates of growth. Employment in professional specialty occupations is expected to experience a 37 percent rate of growth, the second largest increase after service occupations. The article discusses projected changes in the structure of occupational employment during 1992-2005, the total number of job openings that are expected to become available during that period, the impact of various factors on occupational employment, and the effect of projected employment restructuring on educational requirements and average earnings for various occupations.
