| Sumario: | Although the worker displacement rates in the early 1980s and the early 1990s were about the same, there were several differences in the extent and nature of the displacement during the two periods. For example, job losses in the early 1990s were more common in service-producing industries and white collar occupations, and among workers in the Northeast and the West. The reemployment rate, defined as the proportion of displaced workers who had found new jobs by the time they were surveyed, was also higher in the latter period. These and other differences in the worker displacement experiences of the early 1980s and the early 1990s were further examined by using data from the 1981-82 and 1991-92 displaced worker surveys to construct a time series. The findings are described.
