The number of professional jobs nearly doubled, from 27,720 to 54,380. Weak growth in clerical and administrative support jobs, from 116,930 to 129,140, reflected productivity gains from advances in technology. The security brokers and dealers industry paid an average weekly wage of $1,853 in 1993, some 371 percent above the average private sector wage of $499. No industry paid a higher average wage.
