| Sumario: | JP Aerospace of Davis, California, is a group of volunteers attempting the first amateur launch of a rocket through the edge of the atmosphere, into space, and back to Earth. The group's seven-and-a-half-foot rocket will be carried to an altitude of 100,000 feet by six large weather balloons before being launched, so as to benefit from reduced atmospheric drag. The group's launch will cost just $5,000, with a system that primarily uses paper, foam, and plastic and a rocket that is entirely reusable. |
