Sumario:The writers extend William Nordhaus's analysis of the extent of bias in the Consumer Price Index, which compares the net proportion of families that claim to have seen an improvement in their financial situation with changes in real median income. Using the Panel Study of Income Dynamics data set, the writers determine the actual fraction of families that observed measured increases and decreases in real income each year from 1968 to 1991.
